A Call to Justicedivesity.jpg

Social justice is living in relationship with people based on God's unconditional love in Jesus Christ.  To work for social justice calls us to:

  • Recognize and struggle with the social inequalities that chastise those excluded from the rewards of abundance.
  • Make sacrifice in one's own peace and comfort.
  • Be champions for fair legislation justly administered and enforced.

The people of First Presbyterian Church recognize that social inequalities have existed since the birth of civilization, and, typically, the victims are powerless to overcome these inequalities.  God requires those blessed with the abundance of life to intervene on their behalf.

The mission of First Presbyterian Church recognizes the need to increase awareness of the world’s inequalities and develop action plans based on a three prong approach: emergency aid, skill training and advocacy.

First Presbyterian Church is involved in on-going mission at the local, national and international levels and encourages you to join in the following efforts.

The Family Hope Center – is an outreach ministry extended to the congregation and the community which focuses on the importance of a balance of body, mind and spirit for all of humanity.

Food drives – are held twice a year to benefit the
SalinaFoodBank

Fellow Man International – is a medical clinic in Honduras which sees more than 12,000 patients a year. First Presbyterian Church helps support this project through annual financial donations, encouraging mission trips to the area, and promoting the sale of, Green Parrot brand, fair trade coffee.

Salina Child Care Center – is a non-profit, independent child care center which operates in the church’s education wing.

Mission projects of the PC(USA) - are supported through annual shared mission giving. Three special offerings during the year are collected to assist in supporting Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, the Self-Development of People, the Presbyterian Hunger Program, the Peacemaking Program, the PC(USA) support of retired and active church workers and their families, and the support of 8 Presbyterian-related racial ethnic school and colleges.

Children are encouraged to be involved in mission efforts through Vacation Bible School, Church School classes, and Christmas Eve offerings.

Bread for the World and the One Campaign – are organizations that First Presbyterian Church has partnered with to help eradicate world hunger.

The
CROP Walk  – is a yearly opportunity that allows “walkers to put their hearts and soles in motion to help stop hunger.” Join First Presbyterian Church every October to raise money for the hunger fighting efforts of Church World Service
