  • Rev. Dr. Charlie Smith - Lead Pastor

“I Love to Tell the Story.” It’s the title of Charlie Smith’s favorite hymn, and it provides a good framework for the lifelong journey that has brought him – again – to the familiar plains of Kansas. Charlie was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He spent his elementary-school years in Johnson County, Kansas, before moving to Oklahoma. He graduated from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Va., with a journalism degree and worked for the Kansas City Star and newspapers in Virginia and Nebraska,; the Associated Press wire service in Richmond and Oklahoma City; and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Munich, Germany. After a generation in journalism, Charlie pursued a call into ministry, graduating from Dubuque Seminary in Iowa in 2003. Before coming to Salina, he served churches in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and Newark, Ohio. In 2016, he received a Doctorate in Ministry degree, concentrating on preaching, through McCormick Seminary in Chicago, Illinois. Charlie is an avid reader and runner, but his greatest passion is baseball and the Kansas City Royals.

  • Dr. Richard Koshgarian - Director of Music
