Statement of Welcome

As one part of the church of Jesus Christ, we are inspired and guided by Christ’s vision for God’s world that includes everyone who seeks to love God and neighbor. We welcome all people to gather with us on Sundays for worship, fellowship, prayer.

We look forward to you joining us in our journey of faith, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, economic of family status, ethnic background, mental or physical abilities.

What to expect when you arrive:

We look forward to you joining us for worship on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Most worshippers make use of our parking lot between 8th and 9th streets. As you approach our historic building the main entrance is through a set of stained-glass doors adorned with wheat with a sign above those doors reading “Entrance”. Once inside the building please head down the hall past the “Points of Contact” ceramic tile mural. The entrance to the sanctuary is located at the top of the stairs.

What should I wear?

Visitors sometimes wonder what to wear. First Presbyterian is not particularly formal; there is no Sunday dress code! Some men wear jackets and ties, some wear khakis and golf shirts. Some women wear dresses, some wear slacks. We encourage you to dress comfortably and join us worshipping God as we gather as a community.

If you have children:

Children are very welcome and are encouraged to participate in worship. There is a special message just for them during Children’s Time. We also provide “busy bags” just outside the south entrance to the Sanctuary with books, crayons and paper to keep your little ones occupied. A nursery is available on the second floor with trained staff starting at 9 a.m.

What to expect in Sunday worship:

Our order of service is traditional but relaxed. Songs are both projected onto screens at the front of the sanctuary with some worshippers making use of a printed hymnal. Music is accompanied by our Chancel Choir along with organ and piano. Throughout the hour of worship there are a mix of call-and-response prayers along with times of silence. Our pastor preaches a biblically based message which usually runs for fifteen minutes. Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month.

Following worship worshippers are invited to gather in the parlor, located just to the rear of the sanctuary for a time of socializing.
